When discussing health preservation, many people tend to go to two extremes. One is blind supplementation, which involves using diet or maintenance methods, such as the old saying "you are what you eat." The other is blind restraint, which involves controlling one's diet and desires excessively, such as avoiding certain foods or even practicing abstinence.
However, these two approaches are not the true methods of health preservation, or at least not the best methods.
Why is that?
The purpose of health preservation is actually to enhance one's immune capabilities in order to better cope with changes in the external environment, thereby achieving the goal of health and longevity.
Implicitly, both supplementation and restraint may not necessarily improve one's immune capabilities. On the contrary, excessive supplementation or restraint can easily disrupt the existing immune system and lead to a decline in immune function — this is also one of the reasons for the occurrence of various diseases.
Therefore, from this perspective, health preservation should not be blindly about supplementation or restraint.
So, how should one truly engage in health preservation?
In fact, the best health preservation is neither supplementation nor abstinence, but rather the adjustment of one's own emotions.
It can even be said that adjusting one's emotions well is the best form of health preservation.
Why do we say this?
We will continue to explore this from the following three aspects:
Some say that almost all diseases in the human body are caused by problems with the immune system.
While this statement is not entirely correct, it does highlight the fact that the human body does indeed have a self-immune system.
When this immune system fails, various diseases will follow; conversely, when the immune system functions normally, various diseases are kept at bay. This is also the fundamental reason why, in the same environment, some people get sick while others remain healthy.
Therefore, true health preservation is about enhancing one's immune capabilities, not about supplementation or abstinence.
Let's take an example.
When a person is sad, their body often exhibits uncomfortable symptoms. On the other hand, when a person is happy, even if they have minor health issues, they will recover quickly.
The cause of this phenomenon is mainly due to one's emotions.
It can even be said that emotions are the main source of various diseases, such as anger, sadness, fear, melancholy, hostility, suspicion, etc.
Furthermore, negative or excessive emotions are the main causes of various physical diseases, even excessive optimism is no exception, as the saying goes, "extreme joy begets sorrow," which is the truth.
From this, it can be seen that true health preservation is about adjusting one's emotions well.
There is an old saying: the cure for a troubled heart must come from within.
And "heart" here refers to a person's inner self, and the quality of the "inner self" profoundly affects one's emotions.
That is to say, true health preservation is not about supplementation or abstinence, but rather about nurturing the heart, which is the management of one's own emotions — adjusting one's own emotions.
Therefore, all the content mentioned above is precisely the real reason why we say that the best health preservation is to adjust one's own emotions.
